Owner/Founder – Dermal Therapist & Micropigmentation Specialist
Pip was born and bred in Canterbury – a country girl who has always had a fascination with beauty and skin, “Mum kind of clicked I may be inclined to this industry when I used to run around the farm with shaped blue tack extensions stuck on my nails- then I did makeovers on whomever I could - using whatever I could”. A fascination with skin and beauty led to 10 years in Melbourne studying and working with the best in the industry. On coming back to NZ- “Its been great to be trained by the best in the business and to be able to bring world class treatments & knowledge home to NZ- we are definitely catching up as far as skin and health and treating a client holistically- and its been great to be a part of that.”
After starting an extremely successful & busy clinic in Timaru, Pip has relocated back to Christchurch - the home of Making Faces. “Making Faces to me has a clear direction, I want it to be boutique and personal , for our clients to be able to access knowledge on skin and health that goes beyond slapping on some expensive cream. We want to offer only the best products and technology, and look after each client as if they were family, and being boutique lets us achieve this”
She is so proud of her team saying “The depth of knowledge & quality of staff here is the key to why our clients are with us for life”
The two Bichons “Maggie and Max” and salon cat “Mr Bigglesworth” at Making Faces keep the animal lover happy while Pip’s time prevents her from pursuing her other passion in life –her horses. ”They are all being turned out while life is so busy with Making Faces, when life settles down I will get back into it”
The micropigmentation industry is fast paced and changing constantly and Pip is committed to being at the frontline of technology and techniques being introduced across the world. She was invited to attend the World Micropigmentation Congress in Berlin this year, and said the experience was eye opening. "Sometimes coming from way down under in New Zealand you can feel like we may be a touch behind- but it was exciting to see that we are right up there in terms of knowledge and skill set."
Now distributing for a top international German product line there are to be many more trips back and forward to Europe. "It's a great opportunity to be able to bring the best product in the world back to New Zealand to make it more accessible to micropigmentation specialists this side of the world." She will also be their trainer based in New Zealand and aims to upskill technicians in NZ in natural enhancements. "As with anything that becomes on trend, there is an influx of inexperienced operators and it is damaging to the reputation of our industry. Being able to upskill operators means less botch ups, and knowledge is always key. If my experience can help prevent the huge number of sub standard enhancements we are starting to see then that can only be a good thing."
Pip’s designer brows will always be her #1 passion “correct brows can change the face more than ANY OTHER thing- except surgery”
MEET THE TEAM
Beauty Therapist, Makeup Artist & Microneedling Specialist
Tammy grew up on a farm 30 minutes from Timaru,”Daddy’s litter helper” she always loved to be out & about on the farm, having every pet you can think of; piglets, goats , lambs , horses , dogs ,cats and even hedgehogs. She attended boarding school in Oamaru where she became a little less country with the help of the 80 other girls she lived with.
Straight out of school Tammy decided to go back to her animal loving roots and trained as a Vet nurse. She soon decided vet nursing wasn’t as glamorous as she thought and enrolled at Aoraki Polytechnic in Beauty Therapy. “I’ve always had such amazing tutors and mentors, I’ve never looked back. I love being able to help people whether it be treating their skin or helping relax them in stressful times.”
She moved back to Timaru to continue her studies in Advanced Beauty Therapy and Makeup Artistry. Here she worked for Pip at Pips first clinic in Timaru and developed a passion for micropigmentation that has seen her become an extremely talented micropigmentation technician in her own right. "You can't help but be passionate about eyebrows working with Pip and seeing the amazing transformations. It has been amazing to learn from the best in the business."
Tammy has worked in 3 very successful salons, where she is always a vibrant and professional person a great asset to any team. When Pip decided to make the move to Christchurch and asked Tammy if she would like to join her, “it was a no brainer” for Tammy. “Pip and I have a lot of the same values and work ethics, I love being able to work with someone with such a wealth of knowledge and passion for what we do. I learn new things every day and will continue to.”
At Making Faces Tammy also plays a major role in the Makeup and Makeup Artistry department and over wedding season is usually on the road travelling to different locations. “I love being able to be a part of such a special day and seeing the photographs of the day always brings a tear to my eye.” Tammy also covers all waxing, nails massage and her favourite treatment other than micropigmentation - Microneedling. “It’s just such a great treatment all of my clients come back and tell me how much of a difference it has made to their skin texture, tone and overall skin health.”
Going to Berlin for the World Micropigmentation conference has been a highlight of her career, and any upskilling is an opportunity she continually jumps at. "The opportunities to grow and learn and keep getting better are what drives me. It's such an exciting industry to be a part of."
“Making Faces is such a welcoming and personal salon, where we treat each client with as much time and knowledge as we can, we love our jobs and what we do and Making Faces is a true reflection of that.”
